BEHIND THE BOOK

A Note from the Author:
This story was inspired by the town of Winter Garden. Ever since I moved to the Orlando area, I have been proud to tell people where I live and always invite them to come experience what our neck of the woods has to offer. Friendly people, welcoming places and plenty of family- friendly activities.
I always loved living so close to Winter Garden (we live in Oakland) but it wasn't until I had my son that I really and truly appreciated what a wonderful place it is to raise your children. It's so fun to see the excitement in his eyes when he spots his favorite landmarks and shops around town. He can actually name most of the store fronts as we drive through to drop him off at school.
A BIG "Thank You!" to Danielle for helping me bring this story to life! Without her talent, this book would have just been a bunch of words on a piece of paper that I never did anything with.
Also a big thank you to the local businesses and business owners that made this possible. We are so proud to share this book with the Winter Garden community and all who visit. We hope you love it as much as we love Winter Garden!
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Haleigh Smith was born and raised in Alabama. She met her husband at the University of Kentucky, where they were both on the swim and dive team. After graduation, they moved to Florida and tied the knot while Haleigh pursued her Masters at UCF. They bought a house in Oakland and decided Central Florida was the place for them.
A few years later, Justin and Haleigh welcomed their son Beckett into the world. It has been a non-stop adventure with Beckett as he grows and learns but one thing has been consistent-- his love of books! Although she's an accountant and swim coach in everyday life, Haleigh longed to write a book that Beckett could keep for years to come about the special place where he grew up-- thus, Wake Up Winter Garden!
ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR
Danielle Meter resides in nearby Clermont. FL with her husband David and their two dogs, Soybeans and Lammie. She is an artist inspired by God's beautiful essence in nature and animals. She enjoys walking along the West Orange Trail and all the many restaurants and happenings in Downtown Winter Garden with her friends and family.
